I am not sure if I've mentioned this, but I am the first of my friends to get married. This has both it's advantages and disadvantages but one thing is for sure, Brianne has set the bar incredibly high for all future bachelorette parties. I knew it would be a wild party, but nothing prepared me for what actually happened.
Most of the plans were kept a secret from me but I did know that the night would start off in a civilized way. Everyone was supposed to meet up at sue's before going out. I knew this because I asked sue if she would host the pre-party.
I had also heard a rumour that Eden was preparing scrumptious hors d'oeuvres. Eden used to own her own catering company so you can imagine how good these little treats were (my favourite is the baked bree stuffed with pears – I love that one so much, it's an hors d'oeuvre at my wedding). I also knew that I was going to be dressed by the party guests from the waist up, but that was because everyone told me not to worry about which shirt I wore. What I didn't know, though, was that Kristin, who is an animator (and is looking for freelance work), had designed T-shirts for everyone with a cartoon likeness of me in my actual wedding dress. I really want to post an unobscured picture of us wearing them, but Costin occasionally reads the blog and I don't want him to peek at the dress. I also got to sport a very sexy "On the Prowl" fake tattoo featuring a black cat that was sent to the bachelorette by Carrice, all the way from Nova Scotia.
Sue is a great hostess and everyone had a great time chatting, eating and drinking. Some people may have even performed a re-enactment of the SNL skit "Dick in a Box",
but that rumour is still unsubstantiated and I definitely wasn't involved. This was all followed up by a bachelorette-appropriate cake. Brianne is famous for her cakes but I think that this one is her prettiest to date.
I knew something was up though when everyone kept nonchalantly looking out the window. Hmmm...were "firemen" going to show up to put out the fire on the cake? Then a school bus pulled up, but not just any school bus, the Stagette Party Bus!
As you can see from the picture, the ceiling was covered with brightly coloured fun fur. Instead of traditional seats, there were red pleather-covered benches and a princess-seat for the bride. But no Party Bus is complete without Kareoke! On the way to the first bar, we had champagne and played air guitar to Livin' on a Prayer. We also discovered a deck of cards detailing dares the bride to be had to perform to get points (we never figured out just what the points were for).
The first stop was Devil's Martini, which is a very popular destination for stag and stagette parties. I think we were the hottest group by far, which helped tremendously when trying to get points. We had drinks, danced with a crazy salsa guy and even managed to get a guy to give us his sock. The DJ wouldn't play "Dick in a Box" though, which meant it was time to change venues. On the way to the second bar, Stevie and I sang Super Freak. Despite the microphone, I still managed to lose my voice. When Bree first started planning this party and asked me where I wanted to go for the bachelorette, I had said I wanted to go dancing at a gay bar. Unfortunately, this wasn't very popular among the single ladies who wanted to "pick up" or so the story went (I think she was just trying to thow me off the scent). I was so happy when the bus pulled up outside of El Convento Rico's. We danced, watched a drag show and my older sister, mother of two, had her first Jager Bomb. I even got to sing with a drag queen in a wedding dress. It was sad when the bus came to take us home (well, not home exactly, but the Marriott at College and Bay has such comfortables beds I could move in there. A big shout-out to Kristin's dad for the hook-up).
I can't remember the last time I had such a fun night out with the girls, nor the last time I had seen some of these women who traveled, some from other provinces, just for this party. It was overwhelming. I am so lucky to have such amazing friends. I can't wait to reciprocate!!
